Around town with Yarragon local Jo Wolswinkel

My name is Jo and am a born and bred West Gippslandian. I have been running Town & Country Gallery for the past 17 years.

The store features work by Australian artists with a strong focus on Gippsland artists; both established artist and up-and-coming.

Let me show you around town!

Jump start the day

When I am with my niece and her young children, we will often go to Gippsland Food & Wine for breakfast so that the kids can enjoy a milkshake and choose something from the cake cabinet.

The Shot House is also a great option for coffee connoisseurs as they roast their own coffee beans. They also make a fantastic dirty chai!

Let's go shopping!

One of my favourite things to do around Yarragon is to visit the other retailers in town, especially if I am looking for a gift for someone.

A real highlight is natural fibre clothing store Nickelby’s, if you time it right you might catch Angela weaving yarn from her Alpaca farm.

The Three Cheeky Monkeys is a wonderful toy shop; my go-to for children’s puzzles, books and craft kits.  A strong focus on toys that foster kids imagination.

Utter Clutter is filled with an eclectic mix of books, clothing and various odds and ends. You can really get lost in here searching through lost treasures.

Yarragon Ale House is a magnet for lovers of craft beer.

It is currently under renovation with the new owners and word is it is going to open with a new bar and hot food.

Lunch at the Yarragon Hotel

The Yarragon hotel has a great beer garden and often has music on Sunday afternoons. Great meals and service, my favourite is the beer battered fish and chips.

They also do takeaway pizza which is a great option for taking back to your accommodation.

Stay for the sunsets

The Ridge House is a popular location for couples and families alike. The house is beautifully appointed by the owner Kristy who is a fantastic supporter of Gippsland artists and creators.

The property has stunning views back over Yarragon and is the perfect spot to watch the sunset across West Gippsland.
