Red Rock Olives

If you’re like us, you love to shop at a good city providore. One of our faves is Aunt Maggie’s in Gertrude St, Fitzroy. We love the thought that the money we spend there is going to a passionate producer of a brilliant regional local product.

The chance to drop in on one such producer was too good to pass up. It was a massive bonus to find that they are also serving up Padre coffee in damn fine style at their quirky little cafe and farm gate store. The sight of an impressive commercial kitchen was also a pleasant surprise. This is where Rita cranks out great food, taking ‘local’ to new extremes.

“Where are the pickled foods from on our platter, Rita?”

“Well, the cauliflower came from just there, the tomato just here, the basil is there, the beans from around the corner, and the olives of course are from that paddock there.”

It’s a connection we should all make as often as we can – go and meet the passionate people like Rita and Dave who make amazing produce. Take some time to understand what makes them so inseparable from their vision.
