Sunflower season is finally open and it’s time to get picking!

Ever wanted to frolic through a sunflower field, breeze in your hair and not a care in the world? Well, the first step is to find a sunflower farm. Second; pack bug spray and probably a camera. Third; head on out wearing your most dapper attire. And we just found the spot to do it all: Pick Your Own Sunflowers.

The floral bursts of happiness are finally in full bloom across rural Victoria, but nowhere so picturesque as Laiken and Karl Britt’s farm out in Dunnstown. Just a short drive from Ballarat, or 90 minutes from Melbourne, the farm is brimming with bright, cheery blooms sure to bring vibrancy to your Instagram feed/life.

Back in November 2019, the duo planted 200,000 sunflower seeds which saw a dazzling field spring to life last year. But this March, we can nab more than just sunflowers. Fresh sweetcorn is also ripe for the picking, meaning there’s dinner when you get home.

For just $10 entry, you can spend as much time as you please enjoying the fresh country air and bright yellow tones of the tall flowers – and of course, take as many pictures as necessary (no judgement). You’ll also get to take one sunflower home, or stick around and pick as many as you like – each additional pick costs $4.

Make sure you bring cash as there’s no EFTPOS on site, and the Britt’s encourage punters to have secateurs in tow, as well as sun protection and shoes you don’t mind getting a little muddy. It is a farm after all!

Like all good things, flowers don’t last forever. Picking and photographing is kicking off March and winding up mid-March. Keep up to date with the latest dates via Pick Your Own Sunflower’s website.
