The celebrated Italian cook is taking viewers on a journey through one of Australia’s most productive growing region: the Murray-Darling Basin.

Premiering on Thursday, May 27, Australia’s Food Bowl with Stefano de Pieri is a ten-part series exploring the bountiful growing region and the river community of Mildura – which de Pieri himself has called home for the past 30 years.

Taking a deep-dive into the natural beauty of the area, the evolving farming practices and the rich Indigenous history, the series features appearances from Barkindji elder Peter Peterson as well as local farmers to give viewers a direct look at the workings of this incredible food bowl.

The series will pay special attention to the environmental hardships farmers and producers must overcome, and give viewers a closer look at the sustainable innovations happening in horticulture. From preparing classic Italian Spaghetti Aglio e Olio within the olive groves to uncovering the connection between almonds and bees, Stefano de Pieri is going straight to the source to uncover the flavours and characteristics of this diverse growing region.

It has been two decades since we last saw de Pieri on-screen with the acclaimed A Gondola on the Murray, and his trademark heartfelt approach to food is a welcome return to television.

In this series, I will introduce you to this river community, from this region’s First Nations people to farmers and food producers, and explore the relationship between food and the environment.

“And of course, I’ll create some beautiful and simple dishes that celebrate our region. I can’t wait for you all to indulge in this fabulous feast for the senses.”

Put it in your calendar, this one is not to be missed.
