A spring time tour of Manningham

Recently the team at One Hour Out were invited to explore Manningham in the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. What we found was an incredibly diverse mix of residential suburbs and verdant riverside parklands.

The region includes some of Victoria’s most engaging art experiences and the eclectic mix of cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping is second to none. The northern edge of Manningham is marked by the Yarra River that winds its way down from the Yarra Valley towards the city, with endless walking trails, picnic locations and playgrounds.

Come and join us as we explore this outstanding region.

Contestant of Adriano Zumbo’s Just Desserts opens pâtisserie in the centre of Bendigo

There is a brand new patisserie opening in the heart of Bendigo and it will blow your sweet little socks off. Treacy is the new home of Bendigo pâtissier Daniel Treacy. Several years ago, he was working in human relations when he answered a casting call to appear on TV reality show Zumbo’s Just Desserts. A perfectionist, a gym junkie and a man with a vision went on to found the critically acclaimed Alium Dining and during COVID spent his time working on plans for Treacy Pâtisserie.

Opening this Easter Saturday it is housed in an old gold rush era building, the rustic bare brick softened with stylish touches of white and gold trim, one wall given to the pastel hues of silk roses.

Front of house is run by Daniel’s wife Shae. There are just six seats and if one is free Shae will lead you to one and offer tea, coffee or a Strangelove beverage.

If you’re in need of some small cakes to takeaway this is your destination. Don’t expect croissants or cronuts. This is high-end cake making and patisserie at its artistic best. Look out for the Goldfields Nugget, beautiful morsels of hazelnut and caramel coated in a fine layer of gold leaf. Treacy has also made an ‘apple’ from Granny Smith apple gel and puree, that is covered in bavarois, moulded into a sphere, frozen then coated in white chocolate and dipped in colour to make the beautiful dessert green.

There is an array of cakes constantly changing with the seasons. There could be the most exquisite centrepiece of hues of deep blue and mauve as blueberries, lemon cream, violet mousse, mascarpone, crystallised violets, almond paste, and fresh violets are bought together in stunning layers of colour and flavour.

Together with other cakes, patisserie, and macarons, Treacy is bringing a beautiful, sweet offer to Bendigo. “I spent a lot of time in classes, learning from Adriano Zumbo, finding mentors in this field,” says Daniel.

Treacy Patisserie is something beautiful, something that people can enjoy.
