We stopped in at Flying Brick for lunch on the way up the coast and were gobsmacked. This place reminded us instantly of Innocent Bystander in the Yarra Valley. It’s laid-back and comfortable with a mix of indoor and outdoor dining, and casual food (don’t be fooled by the description – it’s casual but sophisticated). We had a tasting paddle of four ciders (half a schooner for each cider!) and of the four, loved the Perry. It was dry with a fine bead and matched perfectly to the Atlantic Salmon with charred fennel.
We also had the pork belly with tart plum dressing – is there any better match for cider? No. There isn’t.
These guys have a sister business who make some smart wines too. Best to check them out while you’re there. It’d be a crime not to.
