The Metung Hot Springs Project is now a little closer to becoming a reality after the venture was awarded 1.5 million dollars as part of the Local Economic Recovery program.
The new tourism destination is being driven by East Gippsland locals Adrian and Rachel Bromage with Peninsula Hot Springs on the Mornington Peninsula as a major shareholder.
These new funds add to $1.5 million previously acquired through the state government Tourism Infrastructure Fund and will allow construction to commence in the next couple of months.
The project will see geothermal mineral waters extracted from around 500 meters under the earth and feed into a series of hot pools with views across Lake King. Stage one of the development is due for completion before the end of the year and will include a glamping village and reflexology walk. The plans for stage 2 include a spa relaxation centre and a small hot spring at the nearby Kings Cove Golf Club, making it Australia’s only hot springs golf club.
The nature of the warm-bathing experience lends itself particularly well to the colder times of the year, and it is hoped the new spa resort will draw visitors to East Gippsland at a time of the year that traditionally sees reduced numbers.
