Show Calendar

Between Friday 4 – Sunday 27 November 2022 discover Front Beach, Back Beach (FBBB), an ambitious public art project presented by Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and Deakin University’s Public Art Commission.

Through film, sculpture, sound, performance and installation this multi-sited event has commissioned leading Australian artists/collectives to respond to fifteen sites and stories that have shaped the Peninsula. FBBB activates hidden histories of national significance using contemporary art to speak to current issues. The project focusses on community engagement, collaboration and the power of contemporary art to tell stories across time and space.

On this road-trip for art lovers discover projects such as:

Contemporary artist Lisa Waup has designed custom paragliding sails, to be flown by a team of local paragliders. Depending how the wind blows, the floating artworks will launch from four different launch pads across the Peninsula.

Flinders local Vera Möller will celebrate the local marine ecology of Western Port Bay, specifically the weedy sea dragon. Responding to what’s usually reserved for divers, Möller’s work will invert what’s going on underneath sea level at Flinders Pier.

Geoff Robinson has created a forty-minute audio walking tour to be experienced onsite within Point Nepean National Park

Following this large-scale public art project in November, the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery will be hosting a special Front Beach, Back Beach exhibition between 10 December 2022 and 19 February 2023.

The project is supported by the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund – an Australian Government initiative.
